At 57 years of age, Evelyn was long-term unemployed. She had previously experienced workplace bullying which had led to mental health issues. She lacked confidence in her ability to find work.

Evelyn sought support from Jobs Victoria Partner Westvic in Warrnambool. Westvic helped Evelyn to regain her confidence and introduced her to Lyndoch Living, a large residential aged care facility in Warrnambool.

Lyndoch Living was interested in taking on hospitality trainees to free up its personal care staff so they could focus on their caring roles. Evelyn started as a trainee and found it a bit daunting at first.

“Once the staff started talking to you, and helping you, and they just made you feel part of the team, and within the first week I gained enough confidence to keep going.”

After she completed her traineeship Evelyn was invited to stayed on board in the role of Food Pantry assistant.

Evelyn has fitted right in at Lyndoch Living and is popular amongst the residents.

“The job experience is just amazing. I wouldn’t change it now. I love it.”
