Hadi came to Australia with his wife and son as Persian refugees from Iran. Following two years in detention they settled in Melbourne, but on a bridging visa it was difficult to find ongoing work. Eventually, Hadi’s wife was offered a traineeship in Bendigo so the family moved north. With work for Hadi hard to find, the transition was difficult.

Jobs Victoria Partner Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services assisted Hadi with career advice and placed him at Poyser Motors Group in Bendigo. In Iran Hadi was a successful businessman and electrician. At Poyser Hadi can use his skills to develop a new career. He began as a detailer and is now working as a fitter in the workshop. With excellent English, Hadi often acts as translator for his co-workers from refugee backgrounds, who are also supported through Jobs Victoria.

Hadi and his family are now awaiting the outcome of their application to become permanent residents in Australia and are very involved with their local community. Hadi hopes to study further to become a mechanic. The future is looking bright, as the couple is now expecting another child.
