Jobs Victoria Career Counsellors provide guidance to people who are looking for work or seeking a career change.

If you’re looking for work, need more work, or seeking a career change, Jobs Victoria Career Counsellors can help you understand your career options and give you the tools and confidence you need to pursue them.

The service is delivered by the Career Education Association of Victoria (CEAV) on behalf of the Victorian government.

How can a Jobs Victoria Career Counsellor help you?

Jobs Victoria Career Counsellors can help you understand your career options. They will work with you to:

  • explore your aspirations and interests and how they relate to potential careers
  • understand your marketable and transferable skills and strengths
  • identify your career goals and provide guidance on how you can develop the skills to support these goals
  • find out more about what sort of jobs and skills are needed now, and in the future
  • prepare job applications.

How are sessions delivered?

Personalised sessions are delivered by qualified Jobs Victoria Career Counsellors on an appointment basis. You can meet with a career counsellor online, over the phone, or face-to-face (from September 2021 and depending on coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions) in your local area.

Who can access the Jobs Victoria Career Counsellor service?

You can access the service if you are:

  • unsure of your work/career options and pathways
  • interested in a specific job or career but you don’t have a clear plan of how to get there
  • struggling to find work due to lack of work experience, for example a recent graduate
  • currently working but seeking more hours, more secure work, or more skilled work
  • looking for support to transition to a new occupation/career
  • wishing to pursue a professional career involving tertiary education pathways.
