Arriving in Mildura from Fiji, Livia Naucukidi struggled to find work for some time. She connected with Jobs Victoria Partner Mildura Rural City Council, who supported her into a role as Trades Assistant on the new Beon Energy Karadoc Solar Farm, located 35 kilometres south of Mildura.
Livia has relished the opportunity to work in such a different environment than the administration roles she has worked previously. “I love this job, it's new to me. I work outside and with different people.”
Rex Handy had previously relied on seasonal work in regional Victoria, but with the support of Jobs Victoria, is now working as a Labourer at the solar farm. He is happy in his role and learning new skills.
Jobs Victoria Partner Mildura Rural City Council has referred more than 40 of the project’s 300-strong workforce. The new employees are taking full advantage of the opportunity, with more than ten participants undertaking new vocational skills training to set themselves up for the next project.
Justin Coburn, Community and Stakeholder Engagement Manager at Beon, says the partnership with Jobs Victoria has had several benefits.
“We’ve been able to fulfil not only our requirements on the farm, but also our own social responsibility to give back to the community. It’s been a fantastic partnership.”
