More than 120 apprentices, cadets and trainees will receive a kick-start to their career, thanks to the major road upgrades happening across Melbourne’s west and the Major Project Skills Guarantee.

The $1.8 billion program of road upgrades in the outer west of Melbourne is part of the Victorian Government's investment in outer suburban roads, catering for the rapid population growth in greater Melbourne.

The Major Project Skills Guarantee mandates that at least 10 per cent of work on projects valued at more than $20 million be undertaken by Victorian apprentices, trainees or engineering cadets. Many of these people are just starting out in their career, but others are experienced workers changing careers or re-skilling from industries like the auto-sector.

The Major Project Skills Guarantee, hand-in-hand with the major infrastructure projects in progress and planned, ensure that Victorians directly benefit from and participate in the development of their state.
