Sometimes, finding the right job for you means creating it yourself. That’s what Karen Fleischer did after struggling to find employment.

She had an innovative business idea to engender a love of books among children but was unsure about getting started.

Working closely with a LaunchMe coach, Karen developed a program for Early Years students. It gives schools access to Australian books, resources and the authors and illustrators for in-class incursions. She has written her proposal, liaised with Ministers and educators, and is now looking for funding opportunities.

Karen has her business name, structure, and knows what it will offer the education sector long-term. LaunchMe has supported her to realise her dreams.

“I’m so grateful for the support of LaunchMe and my coach. I can’t believe how far I’ve come. I’m really excited about this project connecting students with Australian authors and what it will mean for the local community and for my new business.”

LaunchMe for Bushfire Recovery program is funded by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments. It is supporting small and microbusiness owners affected by the 2019-20 bushfires and pandemic.

Through LaunchME, local business coaches employed through Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand – a DJSIR partner - will provide one-on-one support, business coaching and mentoring over six months to assist aspiring entrepreneurs to set up their business.
