With its international customer base shut out of the country, travel agency Mr Kangaroo has built a new customer base among Mandarin-speaking domestic tourists, with the help of a Jobs Victoria wage subsidy.

Go back to the Mr Kangaroo story.

Alan Liu, Owner of Mr Kangaroo:

We’re doing customised tours for international travellers. Before they come, we organise everything for them. We do trips, organising the hotels, transport, flight bookings.

Since March of 2020, our business has fallen to 10 or even zero from 100. So it's just very tough at the moment.

Since I employed her, I know the Jobs Victoria fund, they can help us with wage subsidy. So I think, “oh, it’s  good”, which means she got the job and we can recover our cost of paying the employees.
